Eccentricities and the stability of closely-spaced five-planet systems

چکیده
Observations of exoplanets have revealed that systems with planets on closely-spaced orbits are common, which motivates the question “How closely can orbit to one another and still be dynamically-stable for very long times?”. To address this question, we investigate stability idealized planetary consisting five planets, each equal in mass Earth, orbiting a solar star. All same plane direction, uniformly spaced units mutual Hill Sphere radii. Most integrate begin or more eccentric orbits, eccentricities e as large e=0.05 being considered. For given initial orbital separation, larger eccentricity single planet generally leads shorter system lifetime, little systematic dependence is initially an orbit. The approximate trend instability times increasing exponentially separation found previously circular also present orbits. Mean motion resonances tend destabilize these systems, although reductions lifetimes not Systems all having aligned periapse angles typically survive far longer than spacing semi-major axis e=0.05, but they slightly those

Extrasolar Planet Orbits and Eccentricities
The known extrasolar planets exhibit many interesting and surprising features—extremely shortperiod orbits, high-eccentricity orbits, mean-motion and secular resonances, etc.—and have dramatically expanded our appreciation of the diversity of possible planetary systems. In this review we summarize the orbital properties of extrasolar planets. One of the most remarkable features of extrasolar pl...
متن کاملClosely spaced saccades.
The relationships between saccadic velocity, duration, and magnitude have been used to prove the normalcy of saccades with intersaccadic intervals of less than 200 ms. Pairs of normal saccades with small intersaccadic intervals will have the second saccade larger or smaller and going in the same or the opposite direction than the first saccade. These normal saccades may be horizontal, vertical,...
متن کاملAntenna Selection for MIMO Systems with Closely Spaced Antennas
Physical size limitations in user equipment may force multiple antennas to be spaced closely, and this generates a considerable amount of mutual coupling between antenna elements whose effect cannot be neglected. Thus, the design and deployment of antenna selection schemes appropriate for next generation wireless standards such as 3GPP long term evolution (LTE) and LTE advanced needs to take th...
متن کاملExamining the Feasibility of Paired Closely-spaced Parallel Approaches
‘Paired’ closely-spaced parallel approaches may enable closely-spaced runways to operate at nearvisual capacity in all weather conditions. This concept requires each trail aircraft in the pair to fly in a ‘safe zone’ in front of the lead aircraft’s wake vortex and in back of the lead aircraft’s potential blunder trajectories. This paper examines the position and length of this safe zone to unde...
متن کاملApproximating the Generalized Voronoi Diagram of Closely Spaced Objects
We present an algorithm to compute an approximation of the generalized Voronoi diagram (GVD) on arbitrary collections of 2D or 3D geometric objects. In particular, we focus on datasets with closely spaced objects; GVD approximation is expensive and sometimes intractable on these datasets using previous algorithms. With our approach, the GVD can be computed using commodity hardware even on datas...
